Welcome to the MaxTech Homepage on MacDat!

MaxTech Corporation was the main US distributor of GVC Corporation, a Taiwan-based company that manufactured a variety of electronic devices, including modems, monitors, and computers. As such, all of MaxTech's laptops were made by Alpha-Top, GVC's laptop division.

Maxtech sold GVC laptops from 1994 up until 2001, when Alpha-Top was sold to Elitegroup Computer Systems.

This page mainly exists to link Maxtech's model numbers to Alpha-Top's. Links will send you to MacDat's section on the "Green" series of laptops.

MaxTech's naming schemes are a bit confusing, which is pretty common for these sorts of things. They marketed their laptops as "Yesbooks", but didn't use this name on their website, instead calling them the "X-753" for instance. They likely just have the Alpha-Top model numbers on the bottom and not anything from Maxtech, but I'm not positive on this.

Sub-Models: X-751C, X-751T

Website Name: XB-751

The X-751 is a Pentium-based laptop released in 1995. The X-751C is the only model number that I have seen, but I'd assume an X-751T also existed with the same differences that the X-740 models had.

The X-753 is a Pentium-based laptop released in 1996. Compared to the X-751, it added a CD-ROM drive, faster processors, and other new features.

Alpha-Top Model: GREEN753+

Website Name: XB-753 Plus, 753 Plus

The X-753 Plus is a Pentium/Pentium MMX-based laptop released in 1997. It is pretty much a spec bumped X753, sharing the exact same external design.

Yesbook X759

The X-759 is a Pentium II/Celeron/AMD K6-based laptop released in 1998. This one is a 3-spindle laptop.

X-735

Alpha-Top Model: GREEN735

The X-735 is a Pentium/Pentium MMX/Tillamook/AMD K6-based laptop released in 1998. This one is somewhat based on the 755 design and looks a lot more in line with laptops like the 753 rather than the 759.

G-728

Alpha-Top Model: ?

MaxTech called the G-728 a "MiniNotebook", whatever that means. Subnotebook? Something more similar to a Toshiba Libretto? I don't know. It's a Cyrix MediaGX system. It showed up on MaxTech's website in a February 1999 capture, but the last capture before then was in early December 1998, so it released sometime between then. I don't have any photos, and I don't know what Alpha-Top laptop this was.
