HyperData was a laptop brand operated by Sunrex Technology Corporation, a Taiwanese company best known today as a keyboard manufacturer. This page is dedicated to all laptops manufactured or distributed by Sunrex - these include those branded as Sunrex, SunRace, HyperData, InnovACE, and Hyperbook.

Sunrex was founded in Taiwan by 9 people in March 1990 as SunRace Technology Corporation. They began selling their first product, the Hyperbook 1000 handheld PC in October of the same year. In 1991, SunRace was purchased by Jing Mold Enterprises Co., LTD., a manufacturer a plastic mods. It was at this point that the company was renamed to Sunrex Technology Corporation, although they continued to use the SunRace name on products for a few years afterward.

Also in 1991, Sunrex established HyperData Technology Corp in Los Angeles in order to handle US distribution of their products.

At the end of 1993, the InnovACE brand name was also introduced. Sunrex says this was done in order "to differentiate a variety of product lines and to penetrate its target market". In the years since, this has instead seemingly just introduced further confusion into who actually made laptops that were seen branded under three different names.

By 1994, Sunrex had around 400 employees and they had entered markets all around the world. I believe this is also around the time that they began to sell their laptops to 3rd party distributors to rebrand and sell. I believe 1995 was around the time where they had begun to phase out the SunRace and InnovACE brands in favor of HyperData. Also in 1995, Sunrex themselves began distributing laptops made by other companies under the HyperData name, starting with laptops made by GVC's Alpha-Top divison. These were sold alongside Sunrex's own laptops up until their last laptop, the Hyperbook 735 in 1997. After this, Sunrex left the laptop manufacturing business and focused on their keyboard division instead. They continued to operate their HyperData brand well into the 2000s, lasting through the Core 2 Duo era. During this time, they sold laptops manufactured by Chicony, Alpha-Top, MiTAC, Dual, Compal, and others.

	Hyperbook 1000	8088-based, DOS-Compatible handheld computer, released in October 1990. This was Sunrex's first "laptop". It ran at 9.54MHz, had 640K of RAM, a black and white LCD @640x200, a 1.44MB floppy drive, and a 20MB hard drive built-in. It appears to only have CGA grahics. It used a NiCad battery with a claimed 6 hour battery life. It also apparantly works with C-cell Alkaline batteries. I/O includes parallel, 2 serial ports, CGA out, TV out, an expansion bus of some sort, and an external floppy connector. It also looks like these shipped with some sort of custom graphical shell for DOS. All of these that I've seen in photos have been branded as SunRace. I also think it's possible that the company used to be called SunRace and eventually changed their name to Sunrex. 	Hyperbook 2000	286-based laptop, released in March 1991. Features: 16MHz 286, Coprocessor support, 1MB RAM Standard (up to 8MB supported), 8.75" 640x480 Grayscale Passive Matrix LCD, 1.44MB Floppy Drive, 60MB HDD, NiCad Battery, also supports running off Alkaline C cells. 	Hyperbook 2200 SX	386-based laptop, released in August 1991. Pretty much just a 386 version of the Hyperbook 2000. Features: AMD 386SX @25MHz, Coprocessor support, 1MB RAM Standard (up to 8MB supported), 9" 640x480 Grayscale Passive Matrix LCD, 1.44MB Floppy Drive, 120MB HDD, NiCad Battery, also supports running off Alkaline C cells. I/O: VGA Out, Serial, Parallel, SCSI, PS/2 There will be no dedicated page on this one as I don't have more info than what fits in this box.
	Hyperbook 2300 Series	Shipped with either 386 or 486 processors, 386 model initially released in March 1992, DX2 model introduced in June, then the SLC model launched in August. Used the same case as the previous two models. Features: AMD 386DX @40MHz, 486SX, 486DX2, Cyrix 486SLC or DLC. 4MB RAM Standard (up to 20MB supported), 256K external cache, 9" 640x480 Grayscale Passive Matrix LCD, 1.44MB Floppy Drive, 120MB HDD. I/O: Scanner Port, 9600bps Fax/Modem, SCSI-2 port,
	Hyperbook 3000 Series	486-based laptop, released in November 1992. This was their first of many to use this weird design with a number pad in the palmrest (yep, that's what that is).
	Hyperbook 300 Series	Shared the same case as the 3000 Series but with more features. Added PCMCIA, VGA Local Bus, NiMH battery support, and a Pen Touch screen option. This one released in August, 1993.
	Hyperbook 500 Series	The Hyperbook 500 was a 486-based subnotebook, released in June 1994.
	Hyperbook 600 Series	Sunrex's first Pentium laptop, released in August 1994. It appears to share a similar case design to the Hyperbook 300, but lacks the palmrest num-pad.
	Hyperbook 370 Series	The Hyperbook 370 is another weird one. The keyboard pops up to reveal a CD-ROM drive. I don't think they were the only one to do this, but I can't remember for the life of me who the other was. I know Panasonic did this in some of their laptops, but they're not who I'm thinking of. Beyond the weird CD-ROM design, it's a 486-based laptop, and has a sound card of course. It was released in October 1994.
	Hyperbook 300Plus	As the name implies, the 300Plus is an enhanced Hyperbook 300. They used Cyrix 5x86 processors (but also supported 486 chips), and also included an ESS1688 sound card. This one was released in late 1995 (passed FCC in October).
	Hyperbook 600Plus	An enhanced Hyperbook 600. It brought back the palmrest num-pad, supported faster processors, and also added an ESS1688 sound card. I don't believe the original 600 had sound capabilities. Given that they support up to 200MHz Pentium non-MMX processors, this model was at least sold through 1996, though I'd guess that it likely released sometime in 1995.
	Hyperbook 770	Sunrex's successor to the Hyperbook 370, uses Pentium processors. This one passed FCC in January 1996, so it likely released very shortly after.
	Hyperbook 700/750	Pentium/Pentium MMX-based laptop, released in 1996. This one was based on a new design, marking the end of the long-lived Hyperbook 3000 case. It was also the last major new laptop Sunrex ever produced in-house.
	Hyperbook 750Plus	Improved version of the 750. I'm not sure when this one was made, maybe 1997? The highlight new feature of this one was the 13.3" 1024x768 display option. It also used a darker colored case.
	Hyperbook 735	A lower end version of the 750Plus, released on July 11, 1997. I believe this was the last laptop that Sunrex ever produced.
