Compal is a prolific laptop manufacturer/original design manufacturer (ODM), based in Taiwan. They have been manufacturing laptops since 1991, and now manufacture laptops for most of the big brands. Given their status as an ODM, Compal laptops are rarely actually branded as a Compal - they are instead branded and resold by another company/distributor.

You can identify a 90s-era Compal laptop as a Compal by reading the FCC ID on the bottom. If it begins with "IIR", it is a Compal.
