ASUS is a Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer that has been in business since 1989. They began manufacturing laptops in 1997, with their first model being the P6300. They quickly established themselves as a major player in the business, and are one of the largest laptop manufacturers today.

In the early days of their laptop division, ASUS did a fair number of ODM sales, where other companies would sell ASUS laptops under their own brand names. This was in addition to them selling laptops directly under the ASUS brand. They continued ODM sales through at least the late 2000s, but I don't think they still do so today.
